In bygone days you had to have a big bulky machine on your desk that allowed you to send and receive faxes. The early models used roles of thermal paper that were ok but semi permanent then they came up with the plain paper fax. Today almost anyone with a computer is able to send and receive a Fax From PC. This is not usually a problem since most people leave the PC on all the time, but it is something to consider.

Most programs that handle faxing will allow you to fax directly from your programs so if you create a document in Word or a spreadsheet in Excel you will be able to fax it out right from that program and never get into hard copy format again.
